Polish Girl

A Polish Girl is a Polish sausage (kielbasa) on a bun with coleslaw and BBQ pulled pork. Nice little twist! Another mess to eat, yet a delight, too!

Polish Boy - Hot Sauce Williams

The Polish Boy is a Polish sausage (kielbasa) on a bun, smothered with french fries, cole slaw and their hot sauce. As messy as it comes, and as tasy, too!

Fried Chicken Breast - Hot Sauce Williams

All of that hot sauce you see in the photo is really more sweet 'n spicy, but not that spicy. Monica, out server, asked if I wanted it on the chicken. I responded, "Do it up!" The chicken wasnear the elite level - crispy, juicy, flavorful, and coated in sauce. While enjoying this piece of poultry I wondered if Mr. Williams might have had an earlier and unsuccesful restaurant venture that used the name: "Warm Sauce Williams." If this is the case, I believe any and all involved would have suggested at least this one small change in the failing business, and that change would appear to have made all the difference.

BBQ! BBQ! BBQ! at Hot Sauce Williams!

We saw the sign and turned into the parking lot, but our vehicle drifted past many available spaces towards the rear of the restaurant. Here was a smoker - we had followed the siren's smell of BBQ!

Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland, OH

I wish I could share all that I saw and learned, but the Hall of Fame prohibits the use of cameras. The first level is easily the best. Here, you will find the costumes and clothes worn by rock superstars. You will find their hand decorated guitars and jackets, obviously done individually or with a friend of the star. But, we spent time in Graceland two years ago and found this collection below the heights achieved by the Elvis curators. What I enjoyed experiencing most were the hand-written lyrics, found on notebook paper, hotel pads, and cocktail napkins. For all of the years when I was a dedicated writer of poetry, I did exactly the same things: crossing out words or lines; scribbling notes and reminders in the margins; and, most importantly, saving the original vessel of these words of poetic inspiration. I have so many of my notes, rough drafts, and final copies of poems bound up and stored in boxes or on bookshelves . . . I wonder when I will look through them again, and perhaps remember who I was then.

On Eating the Head of a Pig

The photos from the previous posts prevented individual commentary by me simply because those photos capture an amazing story. Certainly the single evening experience, but I have been on eating quests for most of my adult life. It is not easy to find a quality hog head, let alone anyone who wants to eat it with you (FYI - this is my first hog's head). Tonight, it did not matter. This was pig on an elite level; other variations of pork may be just as awesome, but at this level forcing the choice of favorite or best is meaningless. I am keeping the bones. I will clean and bleach them. I will hang them in my class room when we read Animal Farm. I did not realize until tonight how long I had been waiting for something like this.

First, Steve's Meal

Steve ordered the chicken-friend lamb steaks, an item which I was eyeing without a chance of my selecting it. Awesome. And a little throw-back to last year's trip to Texas and Goodson's chicken-friend steaks (CFS!).

Why The Greenhouse Tavern?

If one carefully reads the bottom third of this section of the menu, one will read about a hog's head. A dream come true! Jowl fat and meat (a pig's cheek) is a pork delicacy. This dish was an in-your-face delicacy! So, so tasty. So, so moist. So, so fatty.

The Greenhouse Tavern

Dinner became a timidly debated destination. Because of the late hour and other, longer waits, Steve and I settled on The Grrenhouse Tavern.

Once again on this road trip, I have been thwarted in my attempts to enjoy some al fresco dining.

Delectable Diner Dishes All Around

Gotta love a Reuben that a life-long New Yawker repeatedly praises. I have never devoured a hamburger on any road trip until today. My culinary psychic powers proved themselves once again with the Bacon Chili Cheddar Burger. How I finished a 1/2 pound burger is still a mystery.

Off the Beaten Path - Westfield's Main Street Diner

Steve and I left I-90 west to take a county road tour along the shores of Lake Erie. We discovered the Main Street Diner.

In Vino et In Jellius Veritas

Vineyards bookended every minor and major artery which we used to hustle to Cleveland. It made us think - What do the commoners do in the Buffalo area? Drinking wine, eating wings, and bowling seemed to saturated every environment. Could be worse.
